What are invisible or zero-width characters?
They are real Unicode characters that take up no visible space, like the zero-width space (U+200B) or word joiner (U+2060). They stay in the text when you copy and paste, which makes them a convenient place to hide a watermark.
Which AI tools add hidden watermarks to text?
Several AI providers have said they embed, or plan to embed, invisible signals in generated text for provenance. This checker is provider-agnostic: it flags the hidden characters themselves, whatever tool produced them.
Does this detect the Claude or ChatGPT watermark?
It detects the invisible-character layer: zero-width and other hidden Unicode used to fingerprint text. It reports what is verifiably present; it does not guess which vendor produced the text, and purely statistical watermarks that leave no invisible characters cannot be seen this way.
Can a watermark still be detected after I edit the text?
Often not. Retyping, translating, reformatting, or pasting through a plain-text field tends to strip invisible characters. If your text has been heavily edited, this tool may correctly find nothing.
Is removing AI watermarks the same as an AI humanizer?
Not quite. This tool removes the invisible-character fingerprint that flags text as machine-generated, but it does not rewrite your wording. A full humanizer rephrases sentences; this cleans hidden characters.
How is this different from an AI content detector?
